Flashback: One Direction Launches Action 1D Campaign
July 8, 2015: One Direction launched Action 1D as part of the global action/2015. Action/2015 was a global movement to demand that world leaders do their part to tackle global problems such as extreme poverty, inequality and climate change. Action/2015 gathered over 2,200 organizations in 157 countries around the world and engaged eapecially youth to voice how they envisioned/wanted the world to be in the future. Action/2015 was all about the idea that 2015 could have been the year when the world could have set the agenda to end major global issues.
One Direction encouraged their fans to be actively involved in this initiative by describing what change they wish to see in the world and tell it by sharing powerful pieces of creative content, which could include videos, photos, and artwork. These should include the hashtag #action1D.
The band had this to say of their launch:
“Time and again our fans have shown how creative and powerful they can be when they unite and that’s why we want to all join together to speak out and hopefully make a real and lasting change to the world around us. Young people really do have the power to help end poverty, tackle inequality and to stop dangerous climate change. Now is the time for us to unite, take action and raise our voices to show that we care about the future of our planet.”
Each one of the One Direction guys spoke about one issue that they wanted to see tackled in the future:
– Louis said that he wants to live in a world where every child has access to medical treatment so that common illnesses wouldn’t cause deaths among children anymore.
– Harry said he wants to live in a world where every child can go to school and get an education.
– Liam and Niall spoke about wanting to end poverty so that every child could have the chance to pursue their dreams.
The campaign was a huge success with over 500,000 people participating to #action1D naming ambitious goals to better the world for future generations.
