July 30, 2016: Ruth Payne Gibbins,(sister to Liam Payne of One Direction), has long been an advocate for humane treatment of all animals. She rallies behind organizations that lobby and create laws protecting animals from cruelty and donates her time and energy to charitable organizations dedicated to protecting animals.
Ruth helps raise awareness of these causes through her social media; using this platform to promote charities which nurse abandoned, abused animals back to health while finding them a loving new home. Ruth takes this opportunity to not only raise donations for various charities, but also to inform her followers about proper care for a pet, preventing injuries for a long, healthy life.
One of the animal charities that Ruth supports is PDSA Animal Rescue Charity which provides free animal care to pet owners that are needy and cannot afford urgent medical needs for their animal. PDSA understands that these pets are like family members; some people relying on their pet as their only companion. But not all animals are treated with that kind of love. PDSA does so much more for their community than helping the needy care for their beloved pets; unfortunately there are many animals who have been treated cruelly and left abandoned. These suffering animals are brought to them for emergency medical care. PDSA relies on the generosity of donors just like Ruth to help them find homes for these animals so they have a safe and loving environment to heal.
PDSA uses opportunities when helping poorly animals, to teach the community how to be responsible pet owners and what they should know about taking care of their pets. The following information, shared from their website , describes the three-step approach they take in the care they provide and how much they do in a typical year. This is from their “What We Do” page:
“At PDSA, saving, protecting and healing pets is what we’re all about. We are dedicated to improving pet wellbeing in three very special ways – by educating owners, preventing disease and carrying out life-saving operations.
Pets are part of the family. Our four-legged friends give unconditional love and are often a person’s only companion. They don’t deserve to suffer through economic and social hardship. They can’t help themselves. But we can – with your help.
We are the UK’s leading vet charity. Every year, the dedicated teams at our 51 Pet Hospitals and 380 plus Pet Practices work tirelessly to provide 2.7 million veterinary treatments – including 440,000 preventative treatments. This helps over 470,000 much-loved pets and brings peace of mind to 300,000 owners.”
Support of just £3 a month can help animals, like the pets featured below, have the care they need to recover and have a healthy life. PDSA provides a page on their site which updates posts of each animal’s story on their site so donors can continue to follow the animal’s progress as they recover!
