February 25, 2015: One Direction was on their On The Road Again Tour in Australia when Harry learned about a fan in the US battling leukemia and sent her a video message of encouragement.
Harry’s message for Brianna Gansert, a freshman in high school from New Jersey, arrived as she was finishing her last round of inpatient chemo for Phase 3. It was shared on her school’s Twitter account as well.
You can watch Harry’s video to Brianna here
“Hi Brianna, I’m Harry, nice to meet you. I’ve heard you’re a little bit of a fan, and I just wanted to let you know that I am a massive, massive fan of yours. I’ve heard all about you, and know that you’re very, very brave. And I just wanted to send you all the love from me. I’m thinking about you and hopefully I’ll get to see you soon. Take care. All the love. I love you. Bye.”
The following is an entry from Brianna’s Caring Bridges journal that a family friend posted for her regarding the arrival of Harry’s message:
This tweet was posted from Brianna’s account a few days later expressing her thanks for all the love she was receiving making the treatments bearable:
For months to come, Brianna would continue to face some very difficult treatments. (Here is an example of what her daily battle with leukemia would look like):
Thankfully, Brianna’s mom was able to post that her daughter was finally in remission and on August 5, 2015. Brianna was even able to attend a One Direction concert with a backstage visit for a picture. The following are some pictures her mom shared on Twitter:
Brianna is now back in school and is on schedule for graduating with her class in 2018!
