Louis Tomlinson honors mum Johannah Deakin with first solo release ‘Just Hold On’
December 11, 2016: Last night at the Wembley Arena in London, Louis Tomlinson gave a very emotional performance of his new single, ‘Just Hold On’ on the X Factor 2016 Finale. Louis was accompanied on his performance by the song’s co-creator, DJ and good friend, Steve Aoki who worked collaboratively with Louis to create the track. ‘Just Hold On’ is dedicated to Louis’ mom Johannah (Jay) Deakin, who passed away this week from an aggressive form of leukemia.
Both the news of Louis’ performance on the X Factor Finale and of the passing of his mom broke within hours of each other. It was reported that Jay was supposed to be present at the performance, but that her health deteriorated quickly until her passing on December 7th. As news broke on Friday of Johanna Deakin’s passing, no one would have faulted Louis for choosing not to perform for the Finale. However, Louis honored Johanna’s wishes and gave a powerful and emotional performance which was watched by millions and which spread within seconds like wild fire on social media.
Louis has been behind the writing of some of the most successful and popular songs of his band One Direction and for this tribute track he sought the collaboration with Steve Aoki, an American electro house musician, record producer, and music executive. Aoki is well known for his collaborations with top notch producers and vocalists such as will.i.am, Afrojack, LMFAO, Iggy Azalea, Lil Jon, and Laidback Luke, and for his remixes of artists such as Kid Cudi. Aoki is currently one of the most successful dance artists with several billboard-charting studio albums, including Neon Future I which reached N.1 on the Dance/Electronic Albums in the United States. The collaboration between Louis Tomlinson and Steve Aoki resulted in a song that is uniquely powerful for combining upbeat music with poignant and very significative lyrics on facing mortality and asking your loved ones to carry on.
Louis was supported in his first performance of ‘Just Hold On’ by his family and friends as well as by bandmates Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan, who were all present at the Wembley Arena. After his performance Louis took to twitter to thank the fans and Steve Aoki, for their support and love. In return, artists, family and friends as well as Steve Aoki showed their love, support and admiration for Louis on social media.
As of today ‘Just Hold On’ is Number 1 on the UK iTunes chart, Number 1 is the USA dance chart and Number 1 in several other countries all over the world.
